How do we see in the world? Are we looking for God? Do we see God in thing world around us or do we see past Him to the things that are there?
In today’s sermon, we hear of Jesus, Peter, James and his brother John, going up to a mountain top where Jesus is transfigured. In Matthew 17, it says that on the mountain, Jesus was transfigured and God’s voice from Heaven declared Jesus to be His beloved son. The disciples saw Moses and Elijah, they saw past the greater purpose of Jesus and HIs ministry. They wanted to stay on the mountain, but Jesus knew that His purpose was not on the mountain, but down in the valley and on another mountain, Calvary.
We end the Epiphany season with the Transfiguration, where we too are asked to see differently.
